Senior Rides and More's Story
Senior Rides and More was organized in 1994 by concerned people of faith with experience in providing health and human services. The founders understood the isolation and fear often experienced by the frail and elderly, and they envisioned a volunteer effort to address those needs.
In 2016, the organization adopted the name “Senior Rides and More” because free transportation was the most vital and requested service it provides. Volunteers, using their own cars and gasoline, take seniors to doctors and clinics to pick up prescriptions, to go grocery shopping and to food banks, and to accomplish other transportation-dependent needs. Senior Rides and More is the only provider of free transportation services to seniors in the areas of Fort Bend County and Houston that it serves. Over 80% of the clients are women who have “aged out” of the ability to drive themselves. The average monthly income level of the clients is less than $1,500 per month.
Volunteers are the heart and soul of Senior Rides and more, with more than 200 volunteers providing 3700 hours of service in the most recent year and driving over 31,000 miles.
