Meet Santa Maria Hostel

“The mission of Santa Maria Hostel is to empower women and their families to lead healthy, successful, productive, and self-fulfilling lives.”

“After I addressed my trauma and addiction, a light flicked back on in my life. I can be silly with my son, enjoy life, and have dreams.”

“Santa Maria saw beyond my symptoms and focused on my spirit. I went from being a financial drain to a tax-paying, volunteering asset to my community.”

Chapelwood Foundation Impact
Chapelwood has partnered with Santa Maria for many years through our Mercy Street worship community. Among the assistance, Mercy Street volunteers provide onsite worship and prayer opportunities for Santa Maria’s residents and their families. The Chapelwood Foundation is blessed to be able to support this vital ministry that is changing the lives of women and their families at the most desperate time in their lives.

Santa Maria Hostel's Story
Santa Maria has served the women and children of Houston and surrounding areas since the mid-1950s. Santa Maria provides critical and life-changing services for low-income, disadvantaged women aged 18 and older and their children. The women Santa Maria supports face many challenges to their recovery from addiction, including histories of trauma, criminal justice and Children’s Protective Services involvement, and homelessness or housing instability. Many also have co-occurring mental and physical health issues. Their children and families also struggle with these issues, so Santa Maria supports the entire family on the recovery journey.

Santa Maria is Texas’ largest multi-site residential and outpatient substance use treatment center and one of very few to provide a comprehensive continuum of care for pregnant and parenting women and their children. Clients progress towards improving mental and physical health, family functioning, and economic stability, supporting a drug-free and violence-free lifestyle.
